VPIP, PFR, 3-bet, WTSD: poker stats explained

Stats compress thousands of hands into a few numbers. They don't tell you how to play a hand, but they show where your play drifts from your plan. This page explains what each number measures and how Poker Studio counts it. Every stat is a fraction: how often you did it, divided by how often you had the chance.

Preflop

VPIP (voluntarily put money in pot): how often you call, bet or raise preflop. Blinds and antes do not count. Denominator: hands where you had a preflop decision, so a walk in the big blind is left out.

PFR (preflop raise): how often you raise preflop. PFR is always ≤ VPIP; a wide gap means you call a lot and raise little.

3-bet: how often you re-raise when exactly one opponent has raised before you. Limps before that don't matter.

Fold to 3-bet: you opened, an opponent re-raised; how often do you fold? If a third player has already 4-bet, the hand does not count.

Steal: how often you raise from the cutoff, button or small blind when everyone before you folded.

Flop

C-bet flop: you were the last preflop raiser and nobody bet before you on the flop; how often do you bet?

Fold to c-bet: you called the raiser preflop and they bet the flop; how often do you fold?

Postflop aggression

AF (aggression factor): (bets + raises) ÷ calls after the flop. It counts actions, not hands: 3.0 means three aggressive actions per call. Checks and folds do not count.

Showdown

WTSD (went to showdown): of the hands where you saw the flop, how often you reach showdown. An all-in before the flop with a run-out counts.

W$SD (won money at showdown): of your showdowns, how often you win money. A split pot with a gain counts.

WWSF (won when saw flop): of the hands where you saw the flop, how often you win the pot, with or without showdown.

Results

bb/100: your result in big blinds per 100 hands, which makes results comparable across stakes and tournament levels. Profit (bb) is the sum; Profit cash is the same in money for cash games.

How many hands do you need?

The smaller the denominator, the more is luck. Rules of thumb: VPIP and PFR settle after a few hundred hands; 3-bet and fold to 3-bet need far more because the spot is rarer; W$SD and bb/100 still swing after many thousands. Poker Studio therefore shows "x of y hands" for every stat. Always look at y first.

Comparing values

There are no "correct" values. VPIP and PFR depend on table size and format: you play more hands at a 6-max cash table than at a full tournament table, fewer with a short stack. Compare your numbers with your own ranges for that format; our standard ranges in the app show how much each position opens in the model.

In short

  • Every stat is count ÷ chances; the denominator decides how much it means.
  • VPIP ≥ PFR; blinds do not count toward VPIP.
  • AF counts actions; WTSD and WWSF are based on flops seen.
